Seema Kadam Sutaar

Visual Artist | Mumbai, India

An artist, poet, and visual arts educator with over fifteen years of professional experience, the practice is rooted in intuition, emotional memory, and tactile engagement. Trained in Painting with both BFA and MFA degrees from Gwalior College of Art (IKSVV University), the artistic journey reflects a deep commitment to abstraction as a means of personal and perceptual exploration. Based in Mumbai for over a decade, the work spans abstract painting, photography, and poetry, where all disciplines converge into a unified creative language.

Working primarily with fingertips rather than tools, pigment is applied directly to the surface in an instinctive and meditative process. This tactile approach transforms inner emotions, lived experience, and sensory memory into textured layers, rhythmic colour fields, and organic forms. Touch becomes both memory and method, allowing the artwork to evolve spontaneously rather than follow a predetermined composition. Influences from nature, bodily movement, and everyday observation subtly inform the abstract vocabulary, resulting in forms that feel fluid, living, and quietly energetic.

The work has been exhibited widely in national and international art exhibitions, including Jehangir Art Gallery, Art & Soul, NIV Art Gallery, Salarjung Museum, and the New York Biennial Art (USA). Recognition includes prestigious awards and scholarships from the Ministry of Culture (Government of India), AIFACS, Artscapes, SCZCC, and the International Creative Art Center.

Alongside studio practice, active engagement in art education and mentorship plays a significant role. Emerging artists and students are guided through creative development and portfolio preparation for international universities, with teaching approached as an extension of artistic inquiry grounded in sensitivity, patience, and experiential learning.

Through abstraction, material exploration, and poetic sensibility, the work invites stillness and reflection, encouraging viewers to pause, observe closely, and rediscover beauty within both the natural world and the inner self.
