Grusha Sabharwal

Multidisciplinary Artist | New Delhi, India

Born in 1995 in New Delhi, India, this multidisciplinary artist works across painting, ceramics, wood, and drawing, developing a practice rooted in material exploration and intuitive processes. She holds an MFA in Multidisciplinary Art from the Maryland Institute College of Art, where she was awarded the Graduate Merit Scholarship, and also completed the Certificate in the College Teaching of Art. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design from G.D. Goenka University and participated in an exchange program at Politecnico di Milano, alongside a course in Digital Textile Printing from Chelsea College of Arts.

Her practice is driven by an intuitive and materially responsive approach, resisting flatness by merging painting with sculptural interventions. Through the integration of hand-built ceramics, wood, and soft materials, she constructs layered works that evoke bodily forms, internal structures, and fragmented landscapes. Themes of tension, vulnerability, and transformation emerge through processes of assembling, displacing, and reorienting forms, where material becomes both language and method.

Influenced by her movement between New Delhi and Baltimore, her work reflects subtle negotiations of displacement, belonging, and internal space. What began as an exploration shaped by chance occurrences in the studio has evolved into a deliberate yet open-ended process of connecting forms and meanings.

Her work has been exhibited internationally, including Young Blood 2024 at Maryland Art Place and the 71st Keisho Art Exhibition in Japan, along with presentations at The Sheila and Richard Riggs Gallery, Area 405, and Night Owl Gallery. Her practice has been featured in BmoreArt Magazine among the “Top 10 Exhibitions of 2024,” alongside other critical and digital platforms.

Alongside her studio practice, she has engaged in community-based teaching initiatives, reflecting a sustained interest in accessibility, shared making, and the therapeutic potential of art.
