Ramchandra B. Pokale

Born in 1969 in Selu, Wardha district, Maharashtra, this accomplished painter’s artistic journey began in a small village where local artisans created Ganesh idols and painted mythological scenes. Watching clay sculptures transform into monumental forms and observing the confident brushwork of traditional painters sparked an early fascination with visual expression. Armed with simple drawing tools and an endless curiosity, artistic exploration soon became a lifelong pursuit.

After initially studying commerce, a deep commitment to art led to formal training in Fine Arts. Graduating First Class First in Drawing and Painting from Government Chitrakala Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur, the artist went on to complete a Master’s degree in Drawing and Painting. During these formative years, numerous distinctions followed, including the prestigious National Young Artist Scholarship awarded by the Department of Culture, Government of India, and a Merit Fellowship from Nagpur University.

A professional association with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, marked the beginning of a long and enriching engagement with the capital’s vibrant art scene. Continuous experimentation with mediums and techniques from graphite and pencil drawings to acrylic and oil painting, has remained central to the creative process.

Nature forms the core of the artistic vocabulary. Whether exploring its grandeur, tranquility, vitality, or mystery, the works reflect a deep emotional and philosophical engagement with the natural world. Figurative elements, graceful human forms, symbolic imagery, and vibrant colour harmonies are woven together to create compositions that celebrate innocence, beauty, transformation, and inner contemplation. Butterflies, flora, and youthful figures frequently appear as metaphors for freedom, hope, renewal, and the evolving human spirit.

With over two dozen awards from leading institutions including AIFACS, The Bombay Art Society, Hyderabad Art Society, and the Indian Academy of Fine Arts, the artist has established a distinguished national presence. Eight solo exhibitions, participation in nearly ninety group shows, numerous national art camps, and collections across India and abroad reflect a sustained and significant contribution to contemporary Indian art. Through each work, a lifelong dialogue between observation, imagination, and nature continues to unfold.
