Contemporary Artist | Jammu & Kashmir, India

Born in Jammu in 1978 and based in Jammu, India, this contemporary visual artist draws profound inspiration from the cultural traditions, folklore, rituals, and natural beauty of the Himalayan region. Early experiences in the picturesque landscapes of Panchari and Udhampur nurtured a deep sensitivity towards people, place, and memory, elements that continue to shape a distinctive artistic language.

Holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the Institute of Music and Fine Arts, Jammu, a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the College of Art, New Delhi, and a Ph.D. in Visual Arts from the University of Delhi, the artist has established a distinguished career as both a practitioner and educator. Presently serving as Head of the Department of Painting and Art History at the Institute of Music and Fine Arts, University of Jammu, the commitment to art extends beyond the studio into teaching, research, and cultural engagement.

The paintings emerge from an inner reservoir of memories, emotions, dreams, and lived experiences. Childhood recollections, human relationships, feminine sensibilities, and the cultural ethos of Jammu are transformed into semi-realistic compositions that move beyond literal representation. Figures, animals, symbolic motifs, and imagined forms inhabit poetic spaces where reality and imagination merge seamlessly. Harmonious colour relationships, expressive forms, and layered narratives create works that invite reflection and emotional connection.

Widely recognized for contributions to contemporary Indian art, the artist has received several prestigious awards, scholarships, and professional honours. Participation in national and international exhibitions, workshops, art camps, cultural exchanges, and major art events has brought the work to diverse audiences across India and abroad.

At the core of the practice is an exploration of the unseen dimensions of human experience, particularly emotions and memories that often remain unspoken. Through a distinctive semi-realistic visual language, the work celebrates identity, imagination, cultural heritage, and the enduring relationship between human beings and their environment.
