Dhanashri Sujit Deshmukh

Visual Artist | Pennsylvania, USA

Born in 1985 in Amravati, Maharashtra, and currently based in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, USA, this freelance painter engages with a contemporary practice that explores the subtle relationship between visibility and concealment. Her works move beyond surface appearance, unfolding as layered accumulations of time, memory, and material, where what is seen remains only partial and the unseen quietly shapes presence.

Educated at Bharati Vidyapeeth’s College of Fine Arts, Pune, she holds both a Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts in Painting. Her practice is deeply process-oriented, integrating paint with textile to create tactile, meditative compositions. Fabric functions as both material and metaphor—a second skin that absorbs, conceals, and reveals through careful interventions of layering, cutting, and stitching.

A distinctive feature of her visual language is the recurring oval form, which resists fixed interpretation. These forms act as quiet thresholds—suggesting seeds, openings, or inner spaces—holding a delicate balance between protection and exposure. Rather than offering definitive meaning, her works invite contemplation and sustained engagement.

Her muted palette enhances the introspective quality of the work, allowing colour to emerge gently rather than dominate. Each composition becomes a space where material, memory, and gesture coexist in quiet tension.

She has received several prestigious recognitions, including the Bombay Art Society Award , Oak Award, and Art2Day Award at the International Camp in Ujjain. Her works have been exhibited widely in India and internationally, including the Luxembourg Art Fair. With multiple solo exhibitions across Mumbai, New Delhi, and Pune, her practice continues to evolve as an exploration of materiality, perception, and the unseen dimensions of experience.
