Visual Artist | New Delhi, India
Born in 1969 in Chandigarh, India, the artist is a contemporary painter whose work explores the rhythm, complexity, and visual language of urban life. After completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Applied Arts from the Government College of Art, Chandigarh (1992), he developed a multidisciplinary practice that merges painting, collage, design thinking, and visual storytelling. His professional journey has also included teaching and creative engagements with institutions such as Pearl Academy, New Delhi; The Millennium School, Noida; National Institute of Fashion Design, Mohali; and the Government College of Art, Chandigarh, among others.
Working primarily with acrylics and collage on canvas and paper, his paintings reflect everyday realities that often remain unnoticed, subtle impressions of life that exist not in headlines but within the subconscious experience of contemporary society. The visual language of his work is rooted in the dynamic environment of expanding metropolitan spaces, where architecture, signage, graffiti, symbols, and fragments of information coexist and continuously reshape public perception.
His compositions are characterized by a compelling interplay between structure and spontaneity. Intersecting vertical and horizontal planes often form a grid-like foundation reminiscent of architectural frameworks or urban scaffolding. Within this organized structure, expressive elements such as dripping paint, gestural marks, and layered textures emerge, creating a tension between control and freedom. A palette of muted neutrals, terracotta, slate grey, and deep ochre, establishes stability, while vibrant accents of red, yellow, and black punctuate the surface with energetic focal points. Dark tonal areas suggest depth and hidden layers, evoking the psychological and historical strata embedded within urban spaces.
His paintings often embody what may be described as “organized chaos,” where seemingly disparate elements converge into visual harmony. Through this approach, the artist reflects on the evolving nature of cities and the relationship between human habitation, environmental change, and cultural transformation.
Recipient of awards from the Punjab State Lalit Kala Akademi, Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi, and AIFACS, he has presented his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions in India and internationally, including Tokyo and Stockholm. As a member of TellUs Art Sweden, he continues to engage with dialogues linking art, environment, and contemporary urban experience.
