Visual Artist | Printmaker | Educator
Kanchan Chander is an acclaimed visual artist and printmaker whose career spans over forty years. Her practice engages with themes of femininity, mythology, identity, and cultural heritage, often using painting, printmaking, and mixed media to celebrate female strength and resilience.
Educated at the Delhi College of Art, she pursued further training in Berlin, Santiago, and Paris, supported by research fellowships and scholarships from Lalit Kala Akademi, the French Government, and the Ministry of Culture. These international experiences deeply influenced her style, which merges traditional Indian motifs with contemporary feminist expression.
Chander has exhibited widely in India and abroad, with solo shows in New Delhi, Mumbai, Tokyo, Berlin, and Singapore, and participation in important group exhibitions such as Pop South Asia at the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, Forms of Devotion in Madrid and Shanghai, and Tiger by the Tail! at Brandeis University, USA.
Alongside her artistic practice, she has contributed significantly as an educator, serving at the College of Art, New Delhi, and as a mentor and advisor to leading cultural institutions. Her works are part of major collections worldwide, including the National Gallery of Modern Art, the British Museum, and the Museum of Sacred Arts, Belgium.
