Visual Artist | Kolkata, West Bengal, India
A Kolkata based contemporary artist, born in 1970 in Asansol, Burdwan, West Bengal, this artist’s practice is deeply rooted in observing and interpreting the rapidly transforming visual culture of the modern world. Trained formally with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, the artistic journey has evolved into a sustained exploration of technology, communication networks, and the technocratic structures that define present-day existence.
The work reflects a keen engagement with the idea of a world shaped by digital connectivity where emotions, identities, and relationships are mediated through instant clicks, applications, and interfaces. Urban spaces, satellites, towers, wired forms, and abstracted geometries frequently appear as visual metaphors, forming layered compositions that echo the complexity of contemporary life. Symbols once rooted in physical reality are reimagined as icons and buttons, suggesting a shift in how meaning and interaction are experienced in the digital age.
Preferring a minimalist yet powerful visual language, the artist employs bold forms, sharp lines, and dynamic spatial arrangements to create surfaces that are both structured and fluid. Colour plays a vital role, activating the canvas and drawing viewers into an immediate emotional engagement, much like the instant gratification of digital communication itself. The visual impact is immediate, yet layered, allowing space for contemplation and interpretation.
The artist works across mediums, notably acrylic and conte on paper, developing a distinctive aesthetic that balances abstraction with symbolic clarity. This practice has been widely exhibited in solo and group exhibitions at prominent institutions such as Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi; AIFACS, Delhi; Bajaj Art Gallery, Mumbai, and various private galleries in India and the USA.
Through this body of work, the artist seeks to capture heartfelt annotations of a world surfing the techno wave, questioning whether modern connectivity distances us or, paradoxically, brings us closer together.
