Oladimeji Alabi

Painter I NYC, New York I United States

Oladimeji Alabi is a Nigerian-born multidisciplinary artist based in New York City whose work is grounded in Yoruba traditions and the lived experiences of Black identity across the African diaspora. A self-taught artist who began his journey in 2009, he later refined his craft through mentorships with established Nigerian artists and by assisting on large-scale studio projects—experiences that strengthened his technical skills and shaped his culturally expressive style.

He holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Fine Art with a specialization in Painting from Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) in Lagos, one of Nigeria’s most respected art institutions. In 2024, he formally established Artofalabi Studio, expanding a freelance practice that had grown steadily since 2009.

Since relocating to the United States, Oladimeji has continued to evolve as both an artist and arts educator. His community-focused work includes a therapeutic art program for African American youth in the Bronx and ongoing STEAMS and creative programming at the Lewis Latimer House Museum, where he also serves as Facilities Manager.

Oladimeji’s work has been exhibited locally and internationally, including features in Vogue Germany, the Royal Academy of Arts (London), Artsy, Galeria 21, the Heineken House in Amsterdam, and multiple exhibitions at the Community College of Baltimore County. He has assisted with artworks shown at the Smithsonian Museum of African Art and supported a mural installation at Meta Headquarters in Dubai.

His practice spans painting, murals, illustration, installation, wearable art, and woodwork. Working with acrylics, charcoal, gold, and culturally significant textiles, he explores memory, culture, spirituality, and identity. Inspired by Yoruba symbolism and African storytelling, he uses color and texture to bridge the subconscious and the conscious.

For Oladimeji, art is a form of healing and cultural preservation—honoring history, uplifting community, and celebrating the resilience of Black culture.
