The artist portrays objects according to their emotions through colours, shape and forms. Here is an art exhibition of contemporary artists from our very own beautiful city Chandigarh. The artworks of Aradhna Tandon, Dalveer Singh, Amman Rai, Pankaj Saroj, Anubhav Som, Soumick Nag, Rahul Dhiman and Samar Singh Virdi are displayed in this exhibition. The paintings created by Pankaj Saroj have a lot of constructive articulation and live depiction of various aspects, moods and emotions of nature. Romancing with a bright colour palette in his paintings, Pankaj has portrayed the vast and attractive form of holistic nature with great ease. Anubhav Som portrays the experience of contemporary stylisation and methods in his watercolour paintings. While his works in watercolour medium comprises of unique shapes as well as unique dimensions, the grandiosity of nature is depicted with bold wash through the watercolor medium of Soumika Nag.
Watercolours seemingly taking the dominant space in this exhibition furthermore in the watercolours of Dalveer Singh the real feature of the medium i.e. an impeccable rendition of the quality of transparency is well used, wherein the varied combination of all variations of light and shadow produces special effects of colours. In the watercolors of Amman Rai, green colour and its attraction through the flora and vegetables reflects the magnitude of this color in our daily lives. The exhibition also has photography works of Samar Singh Virdi whose clicks have the combination and the expansion of visual power that increases with a particular angle of light and shadow. The charm of such expressive pictures always carry a special meaning for the art lovers of the city. According to his expressions the new dimensions of this mode emerges.
Experienced depiction from the multi-dimension volume generated by the use of abstract subtle shapes and colours by Aradhana Tandon in her paintings are easily the point of attraction. She uses the effect of complimentary colours and warm colour palette in her paintings. Through her works the human life’s experiences and emotion strengthens the fantasy of thoughts for the viewers filling them with curiosity. With the precision of cutting and texture and the selection of colours has been done with great accuracy in Rahul Dhiman’s Wood-cut prints. The main theme of his impression is the depiction of the routine of journey and human activities in and around railways that has left a great effect of his mind and his art. This group art exhibition organised by Artscapes is an effort that wishes to communicate a new chapter in the art world with the communion of well experience and modern expressions composing together…
Amman Rai
Artist
Amni is a graduate of BFA Painting from the Govt. College of Arts, Sector 10,Chandigarh.
Amni paints water colors as endless storytelling opportunities to share with her daughter. “My idea of tolerance as I shared with my daughter is that it is perfectly ok for all to be not in one common frame and to be in different frames even if we all come from the same healthy vegetable garden.”
Anubhav Som
Artist
Anubhav Som is a practicing artist Graphic Designer and visiting faculty at NID for subject design and drawing classes.
A master in painting from Banaras Hindu University, Anubhav has also worked in multiple media and multimedia as well.
He has won various awards in designing.
Aradhna Tandon
Artist
Aradhna Tandon is a visual artist based in Chandigarh. A self-taught artist, her artworks use a juxtaposition of semi-figurative human forms and elements from nature to depict love, tenderness, compassion, introspection, melancholy, egotism and surrender in all starkness. Aradhna’s work has been exhibited widely in India and US.
She has also been the recipient of several awards including award in professional category by Chandigarh Lalit Kala Academy (2017, 2007); Award in Professional Category – All India Fine Arts and CLKA (2001); Innovators Program Award: John Hopkins University USA (2008); Distinction Award : Art Kudos International Competition, USA (2007); Top-Ten Women in Arts Italy (2009); Honorary Award by Prafulla Dahanukar Art Foundation (2016); Golden Kocoon Award: “Ray of Hope” by American Centre, U.S. Embassy (2015); Annual Award : Punjab Arts Council (2014).
Dalveer Singh
Artist
Born in 1971, Dalveer belongs to a small village of Punjab and spent his early years admiring the green fields that developed his love for nature. At the same time his experience as a creative director with India’s prominent advertising agency, JWT, made him look at tradition with a fresh outlook. His love and passion for the
Indian towns and streets, prompted him to start painting and choosing watercolour as a medium to express himself.
`I am interested in painting streets, villages and small towns of India. Our country has so much to offer.’ He says. Although the artist’s portrayals are realistic, they do not come across as documentaries but instead, allow the viewer to realize the expression and feel of the place. He uses more subtle and neutral hues mixed
with touches of vibrancy.
Dalveer graduated from the College of Art, Chandigarh, in 1992 and presently lives and works in Chandigarh.
Pankaj Saroj
Artist
Over the last years Pankaj Saroj has worked on various subjects including compositions, portraits, landscapes, murals, ceramics etc. He has explored similar subjects with watercolours, oil paints, charcoal, pastels, black japan being the most prominent of all. He has primarily worked on the subject of landscape. He avidly depicts hills, clouds, water, flora and fauna in her paintings.
Rahul Dhiman
Artist
Rahul Dhiman uses his art to show case the day to day movements of my life. He took inspiration from people he met people, trains, railway tracks, railway stations, his bicycle, the sign boards and everything else that took his attention; he has tried to assimilate them all in his art works.
Samar Singh Virdi
Artist
Samar Singh Virdi is a Photographer and Film maker based in Chandigarh.
He is ranked as one of the top 10 photographers to follow by various online publications such as The Huffington Post, Buzzfeed, Homegrown.in, Youth ki Awaaz etc. Samar is the youngest contestant ever on National Geographic Channel’s Mission Covershot Season 4. In which he qualified till the Grand Finale. Only 16 professional photographers were shortlisted from all India.
His ongoing project is an effort against Drug Abuse in Punjab under the name #PortraitsOfPunjab. Samar’s last film, ‘ilam – Punjab’s Unknown Battle of Sanity’ received the special jury award at the National Youth Film Festival held in Goa and also received the first runners up at the Reel to Real National Film Festival held in Delhi. Currently he is studying Architecture in the Chandigarh College of Architecture.
Soumick Nag
Artist
Soumick is a self taught artist. He is the founding member of STUDIO 799.
Before exploring his creative side he worked as a strategic planner in advertising agencies such as Lowe, Dentsu, Draft FCB Ulka working with a variety of clients such as Tata Docomo, Hero Pleasure, Hero Hunk, Red & White, Canon, Tata Tea etc. He has myriad interests of which writing is core. He is the founder of a magazine called goldilocks – a magazine on design and typography.
