Printmaker I Chandigarh, India
Pancham Gaur is a visual artist currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Printmaking from the Government College of Art, Chandigarh, where she also completed her BFA in Graphics. Her practice is distinguished by a compelling synthesis of Indian artistic traditions, self-portraiture, and personal narrative.
Drawing inspiration from mythology, ancient Indian history, and religious iconography, Gaur often depicts deities, mythical beings, and historical figures. Rather than replicating these motifs, she reinterprets them to reflect contemporary experiences and current socio-cultural realities. Through this dialogue between past and present, her work highlights how ancient narratives continue to resonate in modern life.
Gaur’s visual language consciously merges the sculptural sensibilities of traditional Indian art with the expressive potential of printmaking. This fusion enables her to bridge the aesthetics of ancient craftsmanship with modern artistic experimentation.
Actively exploring multiple printmaking processes—including etching, drypoint, relief (woodcut), and serigraphy—Gaur particularly employs etching and multi-plate drypoint to build nuanced textures and layered depth within her compositions.
Her dedication and innovation have been recognized with several honours, including an Award at the Annual Exhibition of the Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi (2025) and the Open Hand Art Studio Scholarship by Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi (2023–2024). She was also a recipient of the Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi Scholarship 2023–24, which supported her visits to major museums and galleries in Rome, Paris, and Venice (Venice Biennale).
