ARVIND SHARMA

Visual Artist | Karnal, Haryana, India

Born in Karnal, Haryana, and currently residing there, this contemporary printmaker, painter, and academic explores the complexities of human relationships within society through an introspective and socially engaged practice. Growing up in a culturally diverse environment fostered a deep curiosity about human interaction, contradiction, and the fragile balance between right and wrong in everyday life. These inquiries continue to shape a body of work rooted in questions of identity, existence, and social responsibility.

Currently serving as Assistant Professor in the Department of Fine Arts at Budha College of Higher Education, he holds BFA and MFA degrees in Fine Arts from Kurukshetra University, along with a B.Ed. from Pratap College of Education, Karnal. Inspired initially by devotional drawings created by his father, he pursued formal artistic training and gradually developed a strong affinity for printmaking as his principal mode of expression.

Working across etching, lithography, woodcut, serigraphy, and drypoint, his practice reflects an ongoing dialogue between technique and concept. Each medium is selected according to the emotional intensity and visual character of the image—etching for intricate detail, woodcut for bold expression, lithography for fluid drawing, and serigraphy for painterly effects. Through layered compositions and symbolic imagery, his works investigate social tensions, emotional dilemmas, and the search for harmony within contemporary life.

Over the years, his work has received wide international recognition through exhibitions, biennales, workshops, and print exchanges across countries including Spain, Russia, Turkey, China, Poland, Italy, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. His achievements include honours from the Lalit Kala Akademi, AIFACS, and several international printmaking biennales. His works are part of prestigious institutional and private collections, including the China Printmaking Museum, reflecting a sustained commitment to expanding the language of contemporary printmaking through both artistic practice and pedagogy.
