Prof. (Dr.) Kavita Singh

Born in 1980 in Shimla, this multidisciplinary artist, educator, researcher, poet, printmaker, designer, and mask maker has built a distinguished career that bridges creative practice, academic scholarship, and cultural leadership. A graduate of Panjab University, Chandigarh, she earned a Master’s degree in Fine Arts with a Gold Medal from Punjabi University, Patiala, and later completed a Ph.D. focusing on Sikh Calendar Art.

Currently serving as Professor of Fine Arts and Dean of the Faculty of Visual Arts and Performing Arts, her artistic journey has been deeply influenced by a family environment rich in art, music, and literature. Over the years, she has received numerous honours, including the prestigious Le Corbusier Scholarship, awards from Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi, AIFACS, and the State Museum, Shimla. Her career includes more than a dozen solo exhibitions and over 75 awards in painting, drawing, printmaking, and related disciplines.

Her work has been showcased in over 450 exhibitions, workshops, camps, and international events, including the Asian Art Biennale in Dhaka, international art festivals, and major exhibitions organized by Lalit Kala Akademi, AIFACS, and other leading institutions. She has also authored four books and contributed more than 100 articles and research papers on art and aesthetics.

The artist’s visual language is rooted in memory, symbolism, and personal introspection. Drawing inspiration from childhood experiences, nature, and everyday objects, she transforms seemingly ordinary elements, paper boats, water lilies, lanterns, fish, mountains, rain clouds, trees, and celestial forms, into poetic metaphors of emotional, psychological, and spiritual reflection. Working across painting, drawing, printmaking, and mask making, her practice explores the inner landscape of human experience, weaving together nostalgia, imagination, and philosophical inquiry into deeply evocative visual narratives.
