Visual Artist | Lahore, Pakistan
Based in Lahore, Pakistan, this visual artist explores power dynamics, cultural traditions, and the complexities of personal and collective histories through a multidisciplinary practice. Working across painting, ceramic tile collages, mosaics, and jewel-based compositions, she combines historical references with autobiographical narratives to examine the tensions between opulence and disorder, tradition and modernity.
She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the College of Art and Design, University of the Punjab, Lahore, and a Master of Visual Arts from the National College of Arts, Lahore. She also holds a Diploma in Graphic Design from Peak Solution College, Lahore. Her artistic approach reflects a deep engagement with visual storytelling, material experimentation, and the cultural heritage of the subcontinent.
Drawing inspiration from Persian manuscripts and Mughal-era aesthetics, her work reinterprets the intricate imagery, ornamental details, and symbolic richness of historical art traditions. She combines these influences with her own photographs, including imagery from the busy streets of Lahore, creating compositions that connect historical narratives with contemporary social realities.
Her practice investigates hierarchies and structures of power that have evolved from kingdoms and dynasties to modern societies. Personal experiences, particularly the complexities of growing up in a large and often contentious family, inform her visual language. Through dark humour, layered symbolism, and carefully constructed imagery, she addresses domestic politics, emotional tensions, and the contradictions embedded within cultural ideals. Her work questions the perceived purity and sanctity of inherited traditions while examining how these continue to shape individual and collective identities.
Through her evolving practice, she creates a dialogue between historical aesthetics and contemporary experience, inviting viewers to reconsider the relationships between power, memory, culture, and identity.
