Janita Fatima

Born in Islamabad, Pakistan and currently practicing as a contemporary visual artist, her work explores the profound connections between nature, memory, and human emotional experience. Trained in Fine Arts and Applied Psychology, she combines artistic sensitivity with an investigative approach to material, creating works that are both visually compelling and conceptually layered.

Academic training at the National College of Arts, with degrees in Fine Arts and Visual Arts completed with distinction, provided a strong foundation for a practice that bridges observation, research, and personal reflection. Alongside her studies, she actively participated in national art competitions, live painting events, and cultural initiatives organized by leading institutions, while also serving in student leadership roles that strengthened her engagement with the arts community.

At the heart of her practice lies a fascination with organic materials. What began as a childhood habit of collecting feathers gradually evolved into a distinctive artistic language incorporating naturally found feathers, bones, fish remains, insects, wings, and other biological forms. These materials are not employed merely for their aesthetic qualities; they function as metaphors for transformation, vulnerability, renewal, and the cyclical processes of life.

Drawing inspiration from natural phenomena such as molting, her work examines the necessity of shedding emotional burdens and accumulated psychological weight in order to achieve balance and growth. Through preservation, alteration, and reconfiguration of organic matter, she creates symbolic compositions that reflect states of tension, release, healing, and transition. Human emotions, bodily experiences, and inner landscapes are translated into tactile visual forms that invite contemplation and personal interpretation.

Her artworks have been exhibited in Pakistan and internationally, including exhibitions in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Belfast, United Kingdom. Featured in prominent publications and independent art platforms, her practice continues to investigate the liminal spaces between life and death, permanence and impermanence, and the visible and invisible dimensions of human experience. Through an ongoing process of inquiry, her work remains open-ended, encouraging viewers to engage with themes of transformation, resilience, and self-discovery.
