Srijoni Biswas

Visual Artist & Printmaker | Kolkata, India

Born in West Bengal in 1991 and based in Kolkata, the artist is an independent visual artist and printmaker whose work explores human psychology, emotional vulnerability and personal memory. Her philosophical education, comprising a BA Honours in Philosophy from Bhairab Ganguly College , informs her introspective approach to art. She also holds a Diploma in Fine Arts from Sarbabharatiya Sangeet-O-Sanskriti Parishad.

Working primarily in linocut, relief printmaking and transparent watercolour, she explores the expressive possibilities of line, texture and pigment. Her prints often incorporate textile surfaces, while her watercolours use fluid washes to convey subtle emotional states. Her practice combines technical precision with an interest in the complexities of human experience.

In 2021, she earned recognition from both the India Book of Records and the International Book of Records for creating a miniature world map on a single red lentil grain.

Her work has been exhibited internationally at the 23rd International Print Biennial Varna, Bulgaria, and the 6th Egypt International Print Triennial in Cairo. In India, she has participated in the 3rd Print Biennale of India, the 108th Annual Art Exhibition of The Art Society of India, The Bombay Art Society, the Birla Academy of Art and Culture, and Artscapes’ 12th Annual Women Artists’ Exhibition. Her solo exhibition, Water Drop, was held at the Academy of Fine Arts in 2022. Her honours include the AIFACS Graphic Section Award and a Certificate of Merit from Rajya Charukala Parshad.

Through printmaking and watercolour, she translates personal and psychological concerns into thoughtful visual expressions, inviting reflection on the subtleties of human experience.
